Bristol Civic Society visit our development

Last month we were delighted to give Simon and John from the Bristol Civic Society a tour around our BoKlok on the Brook development. The Civic Society is a voluntary organisation, which exists to improve Bristol’s built environment and celebrate its heritage.

At BoKlok, our homes are built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). Our homes consist of various modules that are then assembled into either two or three-bedroom houses or into one or two-bedroom apartments. By manufacturing our homes in a factory, we can be more efficient, reduce unnecessary costs and reduce waste. We complete up to 90% of or homes in the factory, and just 10% out on the construction site.

All of our homes are built in wood. It is the material that has the lowest carbon footprint of all building materials, which means that our houses have significantly lower climate impact than the average newly built house. We are convinced that wood is an important part of the transition to a sustainable construction industry.

Harry O’Conor, Community Engagement Lead, BoKlok, said: “Thank you Simon and John for visiting our site and we hope that you found the trip worthwhile. At BoKlok, we believe that if Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) are going to become a major contributor to easing our national housing shortage, raising awareness and communicating its benefits are essential. Our recent tour provided a great opportunity for us to showcase this. Having recently seen a number of other MMC sites, both Simon and John commented on the need for more.”
