AT HOME WITH THE STORM FAMILY

WELCOME TO THE STORM FAMILY

Linn Storm and her partner and son live in a spacious, 81 sq m, three-room apartment in the cooperative housing association with the poetic name Svansjön (Swan Lake). A subdued color palette, attractive, built-in solutions and carefully selected details create a home that is anything but ordinary. We were therefore delighted when Linn invited us in for a digital tour.

You’re invited too!

HOW DID YOU GET INTERESTED IN INTERIOR DESIGN?

I first discovered interior design when I moved away from home. At that time I shared an apartment with my sister and, because we were students, our furnishing budget was fairly limited. So it was even more of a challenge and a pleasure to find small yet important details to create a home with a personal touch.

Today I get my design inspiration when I travel and from social media, mainly Pinterest and Instagram. Accounts that inspire me in particular are @krickelin @hannahperssons and @kjellemo_interior.

STORAGE IDEAS

A favorite piece of furniture is the built-in bookcase we installed in the living room. It’s basically a BILLY bookshelf from IKEA that we built in using strips of wood to join all of the edges for a seamless look. We further enhanced the built-in look by painting all of the walls and the bookshelf in the same color – a warm, soft beige (Jotun LADY 1140 Sand).

Both the bookshelf and the counter we set up with brackets in the bathroom as changing table are examples of DIY hacks that are easy to imitate. They’re both practical storage solutions and pleasing to the eye.

We also built a kitchen island. It’s a smart way to have more storage and more counter space in the kitchen as well. We used the same cabinets and doors as the rest of the kitchen so that the island blends in nicely. Of everything we’ve changed and built ourselves in our home, the kitchen island is the project I’m most excited about. This is where we always gather when guests come over and we use it every day for anything from preparing meals to packing our bags!

WHICH OF YOUR ROOMS ARE YOU MOST HAPPY WITH?

I’m most happy with the baby’s room right now. We decided to paint it in a fairly dark blue tone (Jotun Lady 5030 St. Pauls Blue) for a softer look. The room is furnished with lots of bargains we found at flea markets, as well as furniture we’ve inherited. We also have a lot of fabric details to decorate the room, which makes it feel nice and cozy.

FINDING A STYLE

I love Granit and IKEA, so naturally we’ve bought some things from there, but the fact is that we found most of our furnishings at flea markets or auctions, or they’re the result of our own building projects! The coffee table is one example. We simply welded a frame for underneath and then made the concrete top ourselves.

At the moment I’m looking for an old, preferably antique, dresser where we can store our bed linens in the bedroom. I check out Bukovskis’ online auction every evening in the hope of finding the perfect piece.
