AT HOME WITH THE PAHLM FAMILY
WELCOME TO THE PAHLM FAMILY
Madeleine Pahlm lives in a 117 sq m duplex in Älvängen, Sweden with Richard, her partner who loves to cook, and their two children Cornelis who is 1.5 years and 4 month old Bonnie.
DESCRIBE YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE
Our style is warm and homely. We like earth tones because they create a calm and cosy feel. We both think it’s important for our guests to feel welcome here and comfortable sitting at the table or on the couch.
Apart making it an attractive and comfortable home, we like our interior design to fill a function as well – like our kitchen island where all of the cooking utensils, appliances, cookbooks etc., are within easy reach of the chef in the family.
WHICH IS YOUR FAVOuRITE ROOM TO SPEND TIME IN?
We’re most pleased with the dining area in our living room. We love to invite friends and family members over for dinner to sit around a beautifully laid table and enjoy delicious food together.
The colours and atmosphere in this part of our home are exactly what we wanted and imagined: warm, homely, earthy and calm – but it’s also functional and has plenty of storage space! We’ve painted the walls grey and given them a bit of texture. This perfectly matches our choice of materials around the room.
WHERE DO YOU FIND INTERIOR DESIGN INSPIRATION?
Our inspiration comes mainly from Instagram, Pinterest and our friends’ homes. It’s really great to have friends who also like interior design. We love bouncing ideas around with them and sharing great tips!
We inspire each other as well. Our home would never have been this nice inside if we hadn’t both cared and been equally involved in the decision-making.
The sofa would, for example, have been grey if Madeleine had had her way, but Richard said absolutely not, because that’s what everyone else has.
“Richard is much bolder in terms of colours,” says Madeleine. “He’s the one who gives our home extra colour.”
“Our tip is to follow different Instagram hashtags, like #boklok to find really smart ideas from others living in BoKlok homes. We also usually search different hashtags for the rooms we need inspiration for and then keep clicking from there.”
