Indian interior design influences in a BoKlok townhouse

Meet the Jha family, who have made room both for their new addition and long-distance guests in their new home in Sweden.

Welcome into the home of the Jha family, who have purchased a new BoKlok home at Drottninghög in Helsingborg in Sweden.

Couple in their kitchen

Akash and Pooja moved into their new BoKlok home, just in time for their new arrival! The couple are expecting their first child and they have already designated a place for the crib.

“The baby can sleep inside with us at first and then we will furnish a children's room. But now we are happy to have both a guest room and an office, especially when our families come to visit us from India!”

The couple live in BoKlok's newly built ‘apple quarter’ Melba in the heart of Drottninghög. Located where there was once an apple farm, BoKlok have delivered a safe and green area with new terraced houses.

Akash moved to Sweden six years ago, when he received the offer from his employer IKEA. He is actually from Älmhult in Småland, but has the opportunity to work both from home and from the Helsingborg office.

We have a great time in Helsingborg and Drottninghög, we have a view of the green Drottninghögparken where they created a new playground for children and we have a large outdoor area for both barbecue evenings and games.

Why did you choose BoKlok?

“We know how much IKEA cares about people and the environment, so trusting BoKlok and the area was easy.” says Akash.

In their new home, the couple are particularly pleased with the wallpaper in the living room and family room upstairs. Their favourite colour is black, which acts as a common theme in the different rooms, which they mix with both pink and gold tones.

In the hall and kitchen hang ornaments that they have brought from India. The couple explain what the various items mean and how they remind them of their homeland.

They have also built a small temple inside their office ,which provides a beautiful place for meditation and silence in everyday life.

Do you have any interior design plans?

“Lots! Among other things, we will put in a kitchen island with bar stools. As we already have a dining table in the living room, we want to use the storage space and have a place for socializing in the kitchen when we have guests.”

The couple managed to celebrate Midsummer in their garden. They decorated with flowers and lighting, which have remained in place ever since.

“This was the first thing I demanded that we buy, says Pooja and points to the black swing on the balcony. It is so cozy to sit in!”
