School visit teaches pupils the value of site safety

Earlier this month, the BoKlok team was delighted to get the opportunity to visit The Laurels Primary School in Worthing, to run a site safety assembly for the whole school.

The team introduced the pupils to the range of equipment, which we use on site to keep safe, with pupils encouraged to guess a range of items from helmet and gloves to high-vis jackets and safety glasses. When a correct answer was given, that pupil was invited up to the front and had an opportunity to try on that piece of equipment. By the end of the assembly, all items had been guessed and the pupils could see how we stay safe and – very importantly – why they shouldn’t enter the site unless accompanied and wearing the necessary safety equipment.

Harry O’Conor, Community Engagement Lead for BoKlok said:

“The Laurels School is situated across from our BoKlok on the Lake development on Fulbeck Avenue, and many of the pupils live close by. With building work happening so near to them, we felt it was important to make the children aware of the need to stay safe.

Thank you to all the brilliant pupils for all your questions and enthusiasm! And thank you to The Laurels for letting us come and be their first visitors since the pandemic began. We hope it was worth the wait!”

As well as the site safety assembly, BoKlok hopes to visit The Laurels again soon to run our Homes for the Future session. The session is designed to introduce pupils to thinking differently about how housing can be used to help the environment, well-being and the wider community.
