Creating your perfect bedroom

If you are planning to decorate your bedroom and you are looking for some interior design inspiration, then our friends at IKEA have put together their ‘ultimate guide’ to creating your dream room.

Here are a few of our favourite, top tips…

Make a plan!
First off, IKEA recommends that you make a plan!

Create a floorplan either on paper or on the screen (if you have moved into a BoKlok home, then you can access all of our floorplans here!).

Make a list and draw out the furniture you wish to include in your room. You can then cut these out and move around the floorplan, until you find the perfect layout!

Choose calm colours

According to IKEA, a calm atmosphere in your bedroom has a lot to do with the use of colour.

You are likely to find that you'll be more comfortable if you choose cooler colours. Think of neutral shades, blue, green and grey. Consider mixing white with one or more pastel shades or paint a wall in a (soft) contrasting colour and keep the rest quiet.

Get the light right

Take the time to choose the right lighting for your bedroom. IKEA suggests the use of a dimmer for any ceiling lights. It’s also recommended that you make sure you have a lamp that you can use to illuminate the entire bedroom (very handy for when you are getting dressed in the morning and don't want to mix up dark blue and black!). Functional lighting is also important – with reading lights near your bed deemed an absolute must.

Personalise your room

Once the big jobs are out of the way, it’s time to add all those personal touches.

Hang up some pictures, place a few shelves against the wall and fill them with plants, books, magazines and a nice light or why not make a statement with a special rug or impressive mirror. There are lots of ways to add some stylish touches, while making your room personal to you.
